REVIEWERS: Dr. Ted Baehr & family
Although Northstar is a very elegant village-style resort nestled in the pine trees that attracts an international clientele, it is also a wonderful resort for families.
No matter what the weather is like in the Tahoe region, we found that Northstar-at-Tahoe is fun to ski because it is shielded from strong winds by adjacent peaks and dense forest. Furthermore, every time we have visited the Lake Tahoe region, Northstar has been the most accessible major ski resort to visit.
Best of all my children loved skiing through the trees, the glades, the many trials with their great mixture of terrain, and those wonderful man-made terrain areas that gave them the opportunity to jump, twist, turn and do all the acrobatics anyone could desire. In fact, there are 10 terrain parks at Northstar. And, it has great variety of other areas surfaced by high speed quads and even an entire cross country skiing region. Northstar offers skiing and snowboarding for the beginner to advanced on 2,000 acres of terrain, with high speed lifts accessing more than 90% of the downhill terrain, long runs, tree skiing, and extensive snowmaking.
Northstar's Snowsports Learning Center is a full-service learning center offering coaching in skiing, snowboarding, cross-country, telemark, and our new snowtoys. Employing a new coaching method used at Northstar, the "Get Good Quick" program is a departure from traditional instruction. Winter enthusiasts of all ages, abilities and gliding skills are introduced (or reintroduced) to the FUN of winter sports with experienced coaches who are available to meet their personal needs. Special slope features called smart terrain and sliding toys like snowbikes, snowscoots and skifoxes which help skiers and snowboarders grasp fundamentals more quickly. The coaches stay with the student until the student is satisfied, comfortable and sure that they've "got it."
Best of all, there are FREE lessons daily for advanced intermediate and above skiers/riders who are 13-years-olod and older. The one and three-quarter hour workshops are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and a lift ticket is required.
Polaris Park is Northstar's evening adventure park, located at mid-mountain across from the Lodge at Big Springs. At Polaris Park, you can ski, sled, snowboard, tube, and even dance to live entertainment.
Northstar's accessibility, variety and dependability, make it a wonderful ski destination.
