For those who remember Telluride when it was the old mining village with the downtown ski area it has become quit a chic, elegant resort with a mountain village complex and hillside housing that rivals the best ski areas in the world.
In over 60 years of skiing with many stops at “ski in & ski out” advertised lodging, our lodging was the first that you could actually ski in and ski out, and the same is true for much of the Telluride lodging.
The skiing offers a massive terrain with lots of long, friendly, beginners slopes, many delightful intermediate slopes with tremendous variety and expert slopes that might scare the beginner to look at them. Great news is that not only experts but also beginners and intermediate skiers can ride to the highest peaks and enjoy terrain and views typically reserved for the experts at other areas. Telluride's slopes and lifts were never crowded so it often feels like you are skiing on your own private ski slope. In other words, telluride is a skier’s paradise.
That said some of the lifts close a little earlier then expected, and sometimes it is hard to get from one side of the mountain to the other.
While there is a vast variety of winter activity alternatives to skiing and snowboarding, skiing is the focal point of Telluride. We did try a morning of snowshoeing learning about the flora and the fawn and the animal life, which was fascinating.
Just like the slopes there is a wide variety of restaurants. So much so it takes a while to find your way around to locate the restaurants that may be good for you.
Although everything that we reviewed at telluride was family friendly.
There is one drawback, it’s at the high end of the costs and expenses, and it doesn’t have the option to work out a more reasonable vacation package. Even soe, Telluride is a great mountain that the whole family will enjoy.
